TODAY’S UPDATES

Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

There are seven new positive cases among students to report: two on the Medical Campus and five on the River Campus. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

A reminder on face masks: they must be worn properly, covering the nose and mouth, indoors on the University’s campuses and properties. Visit the face mask FAQ page for full information on what kinds of masks are acceptable.

Face mask availability on campuses

The University is making available disposable surgical face masks throughout many campus locations.

For students, surgical face masks can be picked up at the Common Connection at Wilson Commons (check hours online), as well as at the Officer’s Desk in Lowry Hall at the Eastman School of Music. Masks can be used for up to a week if kept clean and dry.

Surgical masks will be provided to every non-Medical Center staff and faculty member through their department. The delivery of these masks will be through a department’s admin for internal distribution. If a department requires an additional supply of masks, they can be ordered through the previously assigned PPE supply nodes; for Arts, Sciences & Engineering departments, email Greg Meyer if unsure of the PPE supply node location. All others may use the Facilities online PPE form to order additional masks.

FOR STUDENTS

Drop-in counseling groups for February

The University Counseling Center offers the following drop-in groups via Zoom throughout February:

Speaking fellows open for the semester

Want to practice for an upcoming presentation, job interview, or just brush up on your public speaking skills?  Schedule a session with a speaking fellow. Now open for the semester, the speaking fellows are ready to help students with all forms of public speaking. Faculty interested in having a speaking fellow lead a workshop or visit their class can also now easily request these services via an online form. Schedule a session and learn more here. Follow the speaking fellows on Instagram for updates.

Find writing help with the writing fellows

The writing fellows, located in Rush Rhees Library, G-122, are now open for synchronous sessions. Writing fellows are AS&E undergraduate peer tutors who can help you improve your writing in any style and will look at work from any point in the writing process, from brainstorming to revising. Make an appointment online. Both in-person and Zoom appointments are offered; walk-in hours are also available.
