Mechanical engineering launches overhauled lab courses

Faculty members in the Department of Mechanical Engineering are working with industry advisors to modernize hands-on aspects of the department’s curriculum. IN MEMORIAM

Flags will be lowered for Ronald Bliek

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, November 30, for Ronald Bliek, a certified pharmacy technician at Strong Memorial Hospital, who died on November 6. Bliek joined the University staff in 2016.


GO GREEN

Sustainability Office staff to focus on waste minimization

Phil Piedmont, waste minimization specialist and the most recent addition to University Facilities and Services’ Sustainability Office team, will focus on reducing the amount of waste the University sends to the landfill, maximizing waste diversion, and leading well-known recycling events and programs. Thanksgiving Break Wilson Commons, food pantry hours

Wilson Commons will close today, November 22, at 6 p.m. and remain closed through Saturday, November 25. Regular building hours will resume on Sunday, November 26. Find more information here.

The Food Pantry on the River Campus will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24. Normal hours will resume on Sunday, November 26. Email foodpantry@rochester.edu with questions.

RocTix Black Friday shuttles

Take the RocTix Black Friday shuttles on Friday, November 24, to Eastview Mall to get your shopping done. Sponsored by Wilson Commons Student Activities, the shuttles run from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Off-Campus Housing Resource Fair

Currently living or considering moving off campus? Join the Off-Campus Living Program in Hirst Lounge on Thursday, November 30, from 10:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. for the Off-Campus Housing Resource Fair. Speak with landlords, property managers, and on- and off-campus partners for information about living off-campus, tenant rights and responsibilities, and more. Mindful Professor Training program

The Mindful University Project is offering its Mindful Professor Training for teaching faculty and course instructors at the University this spring. The program is rooted in cutting-edge research and practices and aims to offer participants a variety of tools to access ways to return to calm, be present with themselves and others, utilize mindful leadership skills, enhance teaching effectiveness, and learn what actions they can take to support students’ well-being.

The training lasts three months and includes seven hour-long workshops and two one-hour mentorship coaching sessions. Find more information and register.

Congratulations to Rochester’s women’s soccer team on one of the greatest seasons in team history. The team finished their year with a record of 15-1-5, advancing to the “Elite Eight” in the NCAA Championship—their furthest run in the postseason since 1995.
