Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, a professor of economics and philosophy at Harvard University, presents “The Nature and Pursuit of Happiness” as part of the philosophy department’s Humanities Project series.

Economics Department 50th Anniversary Symposium: The New Economics

A panel discussion brings together graduates of the doctoral program and former professors to discuss developments in economics during the past 50 years.

Colin Powell, former secretary of state, national security advisor, and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discusses the roles of diplomacy and military force in fighting the war on terrorism.

Presidential Symposium on Great Issues of the 21st Century: Faith, Science, and Politics

The panel includes Nobel laureate and Templeton Prize winner Charles Townes, National Humanities Medal recipient Martin Marty, and National Medal of Science recipient Janet Rowley. New York Congresswoman Louise Slaughter is an invited panelist. Trustee Hugo Sonnenschein ’61 moderates.
