Extracurricular Exuberance

PAINTED POST: “I’ve never seen the campus in such an exuberant state,” noted Jay Bigenwald ’59 about Rochester’s undefeated 1958 football season. The exuberance spilled onto the field of Fauver Stadium after the Yellowjackets defeated Tufts in a pivotal game of the 8–0 campaign. Fans tore down the goalpost, a piece of which Bigenwald and his classmates painted with the scores of each game as a memento of a momentous season. Bigenwald donated the souvenir to the University’s River Campus Libraries, where it now resides in the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation.
