End of year programs help students moveout without throwing out

Moving out? Do you have unwanted stuff in your dorm room that you want to get rid of? Donate your unwanted stuff, give the landfill a break, and avoid unnecessary cleaning fees! The University offers two programs to get rid of your items in a responsible way. By participating you are helping the planet and others in need. Items collected will be donated to the University’s Food PantryMt. Hope Family CenterGoodwill of the Finger Lakes, and the Open Door Mission.

Move-Out Cleanout

  • Dates: April 30 through May 20, 2024
  • Sponsored by: University Facilities and Services
  • Things to donate:
    • Clothing and Shoes: Look for large blue Goodwill collection boxes located outside of Hill Court, Jackson Court, First-Year Hill, Residential Quad, Southside, Riverview, and Brooks Crossing.
    • Unopened Non-perishable Food: Collection barrels will be placed in the main entryway of each residence hall.
    • Unopened New Toiletries: Collection boxes will be placed in the main entryway of each residence hall.
    • Electronics: Bring any data storing devices to the UR Tech Store in Rush Rhees. Bring all other electronics to the Sage or Gale loading docks and label “Recycle”.

Dump & Run

  • Dates: May 2 and May 14, 2024, 1–4 p.m.
  • Sponsored by: Grassroots
  • Things to donate: Acceptable items include clothes, textbooks, rugs, chairs, furniture, shelving, baskets, working electronics, refrigerators, microwaves, school supplies.

Bring your items to the designated collection areas on the two collection dates listed below.

  • May 2 donation locations (1–4 p.m.):
    • First-year quad
    • In front of Sue B.
  • May 14 donation location (1–4 p.m.):
    • Riverview Apartments, Building F
  • Rain locations:
    • First-Year Hill: Sue B. Friel Lounge
    • Res Quad: Gilbert Community Room
    • Riverview: Community Room
