MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: The Goergen Athletic Center will be closing on Friday, May 27 at 4 p.m. for Memorial Day Weekend. The building will be reopening on Tuesday, May 31 at 8 a.m. for regular hours.

Intramural Sports

Intramural sports are organized programs that allow the students, faculty, and staff of the University to participate in team, dual, and individual sport activities. Intramurals provide the opportunity for physical activity and fellowship while promoting wellness and the use of leisure time. Everyone who participates in intramural sports is required to follow our sportsmanship code.

Before competing, please read and review the intramural policies and procedures.

Team types:

  • Open (O): Can have any combination of men/women playing
  • CoRec (C): Must have minimum of two women on field/court during game
  • Women league (W): Women’s only league
  • A league (A): Highly competitive league

Eligible to Participate

To participate, you must have a valid University of Rochester ID card, be a full-time undergraduate or graduate students or an R Club (over the age of 22). Varsity athletes cannot participate in their particular sport.

You must be part of a team in order to participate. Each team must have at least five members and all members should meet the eligibility requirements listed. 

How to Sign Up for an Intramural Team

To sign up for an intramural team, you should:

  1. Get a team together and be sure to get email info for each member.
  2. Stop by just outside the Intramural office (Room 1111)  located in the Goergen Athletic Center and grab a roster form.
  3. Be sure to put person of contact on this form.  Any forms that are not completed, will not be considered for league play.
  4. Place a completed roster in the folder of the sport you wish to play.
  5. Attend the captains meeting at the time listed for your specific sport.  If you are playing multiple sports, you must have a representative at each captains meeting.
  6. Please have a $20 forfeit fee deposit at the time of the captains meeting. (Forfeit Fee return dates are May 3 and May 4, 2022)

Learn the basics of the rowing stroke progressing from the rowing machines to eventual on the water time in a racing shell. You will be introduced to the mechanics, physiology and training aspects of the sport. At the end of the program, you will have the opportunity to try out for the Varsity Women’s or Men’s Club programs for the spring season. No experience is necessary to begin.
