Philip Newman ’79
Football
Newman was an outstanding four-year starter
at defensive end for the football team. In 1975, 2017 Garnish Scholar
Newman earned ECAC Rookie of the Week against
Union College as well as Most Outstanding
Defensive Lineman. During his last year, Newman Award Winners
was captain and received ECAC Division III Honorable Mention. He
was the Defensive “stinger” for the team his senior year.
The Garnish Scholar Award recognizes senior student-athletes
who represent the ideal of the scholar-athlete. “They lead our
teams on the eld of play, while doing outstanding work in the
