Judge Carl Paul, Jr. writes that he attended the litigation conference of the Federal Bar Association, held at the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas in February. A member of the Federal Bar Association's National Council for many years, Paul served as president of its District of Columbia chapter between 1965-66. In April 2000, Paul received the John Hay Award from the George Washington University chapter of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Created by Abraham Lincoln in honor of Hay, a U.S. statesman and a Theta Delta Chi (Brown Zeta Chapter) member, the award has been given to only three other people. Paul also notes: "On June 10, I turned 90!"

Betsy Phillips Fisher, a former features editor of the Tower Times at Rochester, reports that she still enjoys writing and has had 35 poems published in the Columbia, Md., monthly Village News since 1997. Fisher is a certified caregiver for children who have been affected by disasters, and she works with the United Methodist Committee on Relief and Disaster Child Care, Church of the Brethren. She also is a chaplainry associate at Howard County (Md.) General Hospital, where she does bedside visits and volunteer work for the local psychiatric rehabilitation day program. In January, she was one of six child caregivers called to the site of the Alaska Air crash near Los Angeles to care for the children of families of the 88 victims. Currently, there are 26 people trained to be on-call for Child Care in Aviation Response, of which she is a part, and each team of six is asked to be on-call for two or three months out of the year. . . . Mildred Newhall O'Laughlin '46W (MS) writes that she met with some Rochester alumni aboard the cruise ship Yankee Clipper when it put in at Grenada, West Indies. She reports that they were having a magnificent cruise in the Caribbean. Mildred and her husband, Earl, were aboard their yacht, Sequin, and were docked at the Grenada Yacht Club this spring. . . . Mary Louise Head Sottong wrote the lyrics to the nine-minute piece Twilight Voice composed by Mario Abril and performed by soprano Diane Owens and the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra last February.
