experience of heart surgery to explore larger themes in his life. Amato's previous
books include Dust: A History of the Small and the Invisible and Victims
and Values: A History and Philosophy of Suffering. . . . Richard Kellogg
(PhD), a faculty member at Alfred State College (N.Y.), has been listed in the
new edition of Who's Who Among American Teachers. Kellogg is the author
of two books and more than a dozen articles about Sherlock Holmes.

Fishman Kiss (Mas), '83 (PhD) received the Thomas H. Mott, Jr. Award for
Excellence in Teaching in the Rutgers University School of Business for the
year 2000. The annual award is given to the most outstanding professor at Rutgers
University. Kiss is a visiting professor of finance and accounting at the school.

Susan DeMond Pierce (MA) sends an update: In February 1999, she married
Michael Pierce and, she reports: "I became a mother at the same time of three
wonderful children, now 22, 20, and 12." In June 1999, after nearly 20 years
of teaching Spanish at the middle school, high school, and college levels, she
left teaching to start her own clothing business, S. D. DeMond Clothier (www.demondclothier.com).
In her spare time, she says, she directs drama productions at her church, writes
short dramatic works, and, enjoys spending time with her family.
