Thomas McLaughlin (MD), a member of the medical faculty at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, also has served as the team doctor for the Spartans since 1973.

John Rowe (MD), Aetna chairman and CEO, was asked to testify before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution last September on issues related to the use and privacy of genetic information. He also spoke at the first symposium on genetic privacy and discrimination at the School of Medicine and Dentistry last fall, where he called on the medical profession, academics, policy makers, and others to adopt guidelines for genetic testing and counseling as well as the appropriate use of test results.

Sue Griffin (PhD) has been awarded $7 million from the National Institutes of Health to continue work at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences on the influence of autoimmunity molecules in the brain on Alzheimer’s disease.

Lee Hieb (MD) ’90 (Res) writes that he was elected to the executive committee of the Arizona Medical Association. . . . Joseph Lowy (MD) is the director of the palliative care service at New York University Medical Center’s Tisch Hospital.

1981
Kevin Black (MD) has been named the chair of the department of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Penn State University’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, holding a chairmanship named after C. McCollister Evarts ’57 (MD), ’64M (Res). Black has been the team physician of the Hershey Bears since 1993.

1982
Richard Rockefeller (Res) was the 2002 Ben Sischy, M.D., Visiting Scholar in Humane Medicine Lecturer at the Medical Center last fall. He is the founder and president of the Health Commons Institute, a nonprofit organization that tries to improve shared decision making by patients and doctors.

Dolores Bacon (MD) writes that she has taken on additional administrative and teaching responsibilities. “I am now the director of medical student education for the Ambulatory Care Network Corp. at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.”

Stephen Adams (PhD) has been named a vice president at Ricerca Biosciences, a drug development and contract services company.

Matt Hoffman (PhD) was “a dead ringer for a youthful, statuesque Carol Channing,” the Washington Post noted in a story on the annual “High Heel Race” in Washington, D.C. Hoffman was one of a group of men participating as the “feather girls posse” for the fall race, which included about 100 men dressed as women.

1997
Dermatologist Beth Lertzman (Res) has joined the staff of the Genesee Valley Laser Center in Brighton, N.Y.

2000
Tim Mhyre (PhD) was a contestant on the TV game show Jeopardy!, where he won $10,999 over the course of two shows.
