Alex Stoesen (MA) completed his eleventh Habitat for Humanity mission in Iganga Town, Uganda, in March. He continues to serve his third five-year term on the North Carolina Highway Historical Marker Advisory Committee.

Richard Knowles (PhD) has authored the book The Leadership Dance: Pathways to Extraordinary Organizational Effectiveness, which was published in December 2002. It was named Greenleaf Books’ “book of the month” for March 2003.

1964
Kai Schoenhals (PhD) was presented with an honorary doctorate at the 2003 commencement of Kenyon College. He is retiring from the Gambier, Ohio, college, where he has taught history since 1966.

1968
The Leader as Communicator: Strategies and Tactics to Build Loyalty, Focus Effort, and Spark Creativity was coauthored by Robert Mai (MA). He is a consultant to communications firm Fleishman-Hillard, an associate professor at St. Louis University’s College of Public Service, and codirector of the university’s Center for Organizational Learning and Renewal.

Peter Palermo S (MBA) has joined the board of trustees of the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration in Mystic, Conn. Peter lives in Geneseo, N.Y., and is the founder and chairman of the management consulting firm Strategic Triangle, Inc. . . . Sheldon Stone (PhD), professor of physics at Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences, received the Chancellor’s Citation for distinguished service and exceptional academic achievement. . . . Tom Zinn S (MBA) is financial advisor and investor for Chapman’s Landing, a catalog closeout and overstock retailer.

Carolyn Portanova W (Mas), president and CEO of the Catholic Family Center in Rochester, was one of 25 women nominated for Rochester’s 17th annual Athena Award honoring local women in business.

Everett Akam (PhD) is the author of Transnational America: Cultural Pluralist Thought in the Twentieth Century. He is a professor of history at Casper College in Casper, Wyo. . . . Jeffrey Hawthorne (MS), senior vice president of Photon Dynamics Inc., spoke at the DisplaySearch US FPD Conference in San Diego in April on how advancements in LCD technology allow manufacturers to increase productivity. . . . Mike Regan S (MBA), a North Raleigh, N.C., author and business owner, announced his candidacy for city council.

Robert Hutchison S (MBA) has joined Thales Optem, designer and manufacturer of optical systems, as director of engineering and operations.

Stevan Ramirez S (MBA), chief quality officer and vice president of Eastman Kodak Co., has been selected as one of the nation’s 50 most powerful Hispanic executives in technology and business by Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine. Ramirez joined Kodak in 2000 after 28 years at Xerox Corp. . . . Stacey Riemer W (MS) has received a Vision Fund grant from Syracuse University to design and implement a pilot elective course on the teaching and practice of peer tutoring and peer tutor training. Stacey is associate director of the Center for Public and Community Service and is a doctoral candidate in the higher education program at Syracuse University.

Jim Cain (PhD) has published his second book, The Book on Raccoon Circles, a collection of activities to create community, social capital, teamwork, and unity within a group. His first book was Teamwork and Teamplay. . . . Mark Gwaltney (MS), ’99S (MBA) and his wife, Julie, send a photo of their first child, Erin Anne. She was born January 30, 2002. Mark works for Xerox Corp. as manager of the digital imaging design team and volunteers on the Town of Perinton (N.Y.) Parks and Recreation Committee. He says, “We are enjoying the wonderful moments that Erin brings to our lives every day.” . . . Margaret Keller-Cogan W (EdD), assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the Greece (N.Y.) Central School District, was one of 25 women nominated for Rochester’s 17th annual Athena Award honoring local women in business.

1997
Debra Meyers (PhD) published Common Whores, Vertuous Women, and Loveing Wives: Free Will Christian Women in Colonial Maryland in March.

1998
Erik Grimm S (MBA) and Susan Sirianni were married September 14, 2002, in Rochester. Erik is president of Suburban Disposal Corp.; Susan is a chiropractor. . . . Robert Teitelbaum S (MBA) writes that he “started a new business, Imagineer—digital photo restoration, retouching, and custom imaging—after 22 years at Kodak.” His company’s Web site is ImagineerPix.com.
