“The number of Mexicans around here is so small, compared with other places. It’s not the same. Back home, I feel comfortable—I’ve lived with Latinos my whole life, there are businesses with Spanish names, everyone speaks Spanish. . . . So this community on campus was shocking to me. But I don’t want to be one of those people who only sticks with people from their own culture. I’m trying to understand, and I’m trying to blend in. It’s just that this culture is different from what I know.”
