We’re closer to Toronto than New York City, so plan your travels accordingly. The Rochester metro area is easily navigable and our main campuses are a short drive or rideshare from the Greater Rochester International Airport, train station, or bus station.
We have five primary sections of campus—spanning arts, sciences, medicine, and music. Get a glimpse into what our campuses have in store for your visit.
The 154-acre River Campus is the University’s primary academic campus. Located about two miles south of downtown Rochester, River Campus is nestled by a bend in the Genesee River—hence, River Campus. This best-of-both-worlds setting gives our community quick city access without sacrificing the collegiate greenery we’ve come to love.
A nucleus of medical research, education, and patient care, the University of Rochester Medicine is a community change-maker. It includes the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing, Strong Memorial Hospital, Golisano Children’s Hospital (the area’s only children’s hospital), Wilmot Cancer Institute, and Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
The Eastman School’s downtown campus anchors the city’s cultural district, known as the East End. Expect to find musicians—and music fans—of all stripes in and around this architectural gem for classes, jam sessions, concerts, festivals, and more.
Known locally as “MAG,” the Memorial Art Gallery attracts nearly 300,000 visitors a year. Its permanent collection of 10,000-plus works spans 50 centuries of world art, from antiquities to the avant-garde.
The quest to unlock controlled nuclear fusion is happening right here at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Known locally as the Laser Lab or LLE it’s home to the largest university-based US Department of Energy program in the nation. Tours of the Laser Lab are available to the public.
