Our faculty contributed to the research
behind the first vaccine specifically

designed to prevent cancer—the human
papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. They
also developed the technology behind

vaccines that fight other childhood
infections such as meningitis. These
include the HiB vaccine, which has all

but eliminated one of the most common
forms of bacterial meningitis, and the
Prevnar vaccine.
