CARE Testimonials

“The CARE system has been critical to our ability to reach students in distress and help them succeed. CARE staff have taught us how to identify students in need, and works closely with us to address these concerns. We are grateful for the CARE team’s incredible commitment to students' well being. Thank you!”
Deborah F. Rossen-Knill, WSAP

“When I filed my first CARE Referral, I wasn’t sure about the outcome. I hadn’t ever done anything like it before, and wasn’t sure if the person I was reaching out for would resent me for my actions. Needless to say, it was the best decision I could have ever made for both my friend as well as for myself. After meeting with the CARE Network, I felt respected and most importantly, heard. I knew that there was a team of proactive individuals who listened to me with the intentions of helping in any way they could. I strongly recommend the CARE Network to anybody who feels like they need a support system that works both with them and for them. Real people placing the puzzle pieces together in order to solve real problems.”

“I encountered serious difficulties adjusting to college and academic life at the University, but never once could I have imagined coping with those challenges anyone other than at school. The Care system provided me with the chance to express myself and my struggles, and most importantly, be met with a light at the other side with tangible “helping hands”- through opportunities for growth and support, and mentorship, companionship, and compassion as I progressed through that difficult time. I have always been a person who cares about others and many people wouldn’t guess that I have been to Care, to seek help to be cared for myself and for others in my life. There is never a shame in Caring, and by far, is one of the greatest and most useful facets of UR that houses love, compassion, and empathy at the university.”

“Sometimes I have students with problems unrelated to course content. Despite their best efforts they are falling farther behind, or they always seem sad. When I submit a CARE referral, my observations are combined with those of other faculty, friends, and family to give a clear view of the student’s situation. The CARE network provides a way for me to express my concerns and get the student some help."
