Level Two

Level 2 of the Medallion Program focuses on the sixth domain: interpersonal competence. To successfully complete this portion of the program you will need to:

  • Attend The Practices of Leadership Level 2: Opening Session
  • Be/have one of the following:
    • An active member* of a recognized student organization
    • Hold a campus job
    • An athlete through athletics
    • A leadership role within a campus department
    • A leadership role in a community organization
  • Complete five interpersonal competence workshops
  • Must complete a short reflection for each workshop (submitted via CCC)
  • Must complete a leadership role reflection paper (submitted via CCC)
  • Must complete Level 2 assessment (submitted via CCC)

*Active member is defined as having completed one full semester in a role, actively participating in group decisions, and being in good standing.

The Practices of Leadership, Level 2: Opening Session

During this session you will complete the Leadership Practices Inventory to understand your unique leadership style and how it can benefit your organizations. We’ll also discuss how leaders work collaboratively to help a group succeed.

Visit CCC events to find when the next one will be offered. The Practice of Leadership, Level 2: Opening Session workshops can be requested by filling out this form. Groups must have at least ten people signed up to attend in order to request an opening session workshop

Leadership Role Reflection Paper

Level 2 participants are required to complete a paper reflecting on their experiences as a student group member or student employee. You must include the answers to the questions below in your reflection:

  • Using the leadership role you provided for Level 2, please complete a reflection thoroughly addressing the prompts below.
  • Incorporating what you have learned from the Level 2 Interpersonal Competence workshops, explain what skill(s) you have gained or further developed that has positively impacted your ability to be a better student leader.
  • Describe how your personal actions in your leadership role(s) have impacted the organizations you were a part of in addition to the greater U of R community.
  • Give an example of a situation when you utilized a specific interpersonal skill (ex. active listening, mediating) to address conflict within your a) Explain how you addressed the conflict. Did you need to change your approach? b) How did your approach benefit the group moving forward?

Level Two Incentives

Upon completion of the requirements for level two you will:

  • Receive a Level 2 pin
  • Be invited to attend the spring Leadership Appreciation Reception or fall Medallion Program Reception
  • Have a deeper, more complex understanding of leadership and collaboration with others
