URDU attends scrimmage at Bard College and tournament at Binghamton University
This past weekend UR Debate attended the Phyllis Schatz Invitational at Binghamton University.

Lara Ozcayir and Ashaz Rahman went 5-1 in preliminary rounds and finished as Quarterfinalists. Lara was also recognized as the 5th best speaker and Ashaz was recognized as 6th. The policy squad is excited about tournaments to come. Next up is our own tournament, the Brad Smith Debate Tournament, at UR on October 19-20!
This past weekend UR Debate also attended a Novice Scrimmage at Bard College. Two teams of brand-new URDU debaters competed against other novices from teams across New York State, such as Colgate and Cornell Universities. The Scrimmage also offered great workshops to introduce this new group of students to the activity, with fun topics that allowed for the application of those skills in a competitive setting. This was a great event to bring our students to and we thank Bard for running it!
Looking forward to some great events coming up, including the Social Justice Debates Online Opener and the Lewis and Clark tournament in Portland, OR!
