Roselyn Bar was appointed vice president, general counsel, and secretary of the corporation for Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. . . . Carol Podgorski '90 (PhD), executive director of the Center for Lifetime Wellness, was one of several Rochester area women nominated for the 2002 Athena Award from the Women's Council of the Greater Rochester Metro Chamber of Commerce. . . . Paul Woitach '95S (MBA) was elected to the board of directors for Rheometric Scientific of New Jersey.

Andrew Artenstein was named to the active staff of the infectious disease department at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. . . . Doncella Young writes that she was one of the first African Americans to earn the Certified Mortgage Banker accreditation from the Mortgage Bankers Association of America and was one of 13 mortgage banking professionals to receive the designation in 2001. She is an examination analyst at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.

OCTOBER 11-13, 2002

Peter Adcroft coached the North Raleigh Red Bulldogs defense when the Pop Warner team went undefeated and unscored upon last year, beating the Capital City Steelers in the Mitey Mite Bowl in October 2001. . . . After moving to Chapel Hill, N.C., Brian Cutler started JuryTactics, a jury consulting firm that assists attorneys with assessing their cases and strengthening their case presentations. He regularly teaches continuing legal education courses and publishes articles in trial advocacy journals. Brian can be reached at cutler@jurytactics.com. . . . Randy Kornfeld Marber writes that she was elected district court judge for the fourth district of Nassau County in the 2001 elections. She defeated the incumbent by 496 votes.

Denise Robinson Henzes and her husband, Jack Henzes, write to announce the birth of their daughter, Sadie Hannah, born June 4, 2001. She joins her brothers, Jamie and Jake, and her sister, Emma. . . . Wendy Beth Jackelow has been a medical illustrator for more than 15 years. Her work has been published by companies such as Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, and others as well as been used in advertising campaigns. . . . Katherine Nolan is the director of the "Re-thinking Accountability" initiative for the school reform think tank the Annenberg Institute for School at Brown University.

Scott Gordon '85S (MBA) is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, a financial house in New York City. . . . John Kieffer was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his actions at the Pentagon following the September 11 terrorist attack. In the office of the chief of naval operations when the airliner collided with the building, John was recognized for repeatedly entering the damaged areas in search of injured employees and assisting in the firefighting efforts. . . . John McEleney has been promoted to chief operating officer of SolidWorks in Concord, Mass.

Scott Carpentier '92S (MBA) married Setphanie Howe on September 15, 2001. He is the relationship manager at EKCC, a division of GE Capital. . . . Virginia Hampton (MS) gave birth to her daughter, Emily, on September 4, 2001. Emily joins her brother, Benjamin. Virginia is a postdoctoral student in psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. . . . Mark Palvino was highlighted in the Rochester Business Journal's annual "40 Under 40" list. He is the founder, president, and CEO of MPX, Inc. . . . Kevin Short sends an update. He launched his own software company, Chaoticom, in March 2001, creating software for compression of speech, music, and video. "For me, this is my life's dream, and I am pushing it with all that is in me," he writes. . . . Nancy DeKimpe Wilson writes that she is volunteering in the local elementary school and singing and playing flute with her church choir.

Michael Cassidy sends an update. He took a new position doing strategy and business development work for the power systems group of UTC in September. . . . Miriam Cohen writes that she and her husband, Joe Kuhn, had a daughter, Nina-Soleil, in July 2001, joining their son, Joshua, who is 3. They live in Madison, Wis., "and would love to hear from any alumni who live in the area," she writes. . . . Brian Gabriel sends a photo of himself with his 3-year-old daughter, Marissa, taken in November in front of Rush Rhees Library. . . . Donald Giolini is president of QED Technologies of Rochester, which developed an automated technique to polish lenses using magnetic fluids. His efforts won him the Ernst & Young Upstate New York Entrepreneur of the Year award last year in the manufacturing category. . . . Robin Jaskow writes that her Web site at www.jmwc.org has been named as the January 2002 featured site at the Jewish Music WebCenter. . . . Christopher Progler '87 (MS) has joined Photronics, Inc. as chief scientist.

OCTOBER 11-13, 2002

Kathleen Hayden '93M (MD), '96M (Res) sends an update. Her third child, Christopher Andrew Rapoza, was born on May 10, 2001. Kathleen recovered from a rare complication from her daughter's birth to compete in and finish fourth in a five-mile race last year. She and her husband, Paul Rapoza, practice part-time at West Ridge Family Medical Center in Erie, Pa. . . . Charles Henneman sends an update. On August 9, 2000, his wife, Laurel, gave birth to their son, Wyatt Neville. On December 15, 2001, he caught up with Craig Dubitsky and Alexandra Okun '88 over brunch, and he also got reacquainted with Ivan Miller '88. He has joined Indosuez Capital as vice president of structuring and operations. . . . Steven Korn, former vice president of Lucent Technologies, has been named to the board of directors for Airslide Systems, Inc. . . . Carol Sulcoski writes that she and her husband, Tom Speranza, had twins, Nick and Grace, born on December 1, 2001. "Big brother James just turned 4 and is coping reasonably well with the new additions. I am presently taking time off from the law to spend time with our children," she writes.

Eftihia Bourtis challenged Monroe County (N.Y.) Clerk Maggie Brooks for the position in November 2001. . . . Robert Colon was highlighted in the Rochester Business Journal's annual "40 Under 40" list. He is the manager of legal affairs for Paychex, Inc. . . . John Coons has been appointed director for the Western Michigan University Counseling and Testing Center. The appointment also includes a faculty position as an associate professor with tenure. . . . Robert Wiesenthal has been appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer for Sony Corporation of America.

Karen Berman sends a career update. After receiving her M.D. from Albany Medical College last year, she is a first-year resident at Albany Hospital in internal medicine and pediatrics. . . . Marc De Leeuw married Christine Monterosso on January 19. . . . David Rubinowitz sends an update. He was promoted to executive director at Morgan Stanley and heads the estate planning services group. His former office was on the 74th floor of 2 World Trade Center, but after the events of September 11, he was relocated to midtown Manhattan. He writes, "thanks to all of my friends and family (Ami, Susi, Emili, and Wendi - all Rochester grads) for their thoughts, love, and well wishes after the events of September 11. Sincere thanks to the heroic professionals within Morgan Stanley Security, the NYFD, NYPD, NYPAPD, and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. You are my and my family's heroes."
