Louis Alexander, Sr.

At Rochester:

  • As both teacher and coach, served the Department of Sports and Recreation for 35 years
  • Coached an unbeaten men's basketball team in 1941-42 and an unbeaten baseball team in 1945
  • Between basketball (247 victories) and baseball (145 victories), he won nearly 400 games
  • From 1945 until his retirement, he was Chairman of the Department of Physical Education and Director of Athletics
  • Selected to the Helms Hall of Fame
  • The basketball arena, the Palestra, was dedicated in his name on December 6, 1968
