Why did you choose UR for graduate education (other than for your advisor)?

When I was applying for grad school, I looked for a place where I could find community. At the University of Rochester, I discovered student groups such as SACNAS, which I was a part of at my previous school, and outGRADS. I had the opportunity to meet some of the individuals from both groups and learn more about U of R. I felt like I could make Rochester my home.

What resources or services (social, academic, or anything else) have you found most helpful at UR?

The most helpful resources I found at U of R are the Office of Disability Resources and the GEPA Office (Office of Graduate Education and Post-Doctoral Affairs). The Disabilities Office helped me determine the testing conditions and computer programs that worked best for me. GEPA provided me with the resources and support I needed when I was struggling in my first year.

What are your favorite spots on or off-campus (restaurants, festivals, natural trails, or whatever) in Rochester?

Off-campus, in the summer, I like to go to Ontario Beach. Throughout the year, my favorite places to visit are The Little Theatre, The Dryden Theatre, and the Memorial Art Gallery. In the winter, I enjoy going to Radio Social for bowling and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park for ice skating. On campus, I prefer to study at the Carlson Library and Wegman's Hall and hang out at the Eastman Quadrangle in front of Rush Rhees Library.
