Richard Pugh (MS) sent a note that he had accumulated a collection of Rochester Reviews going back to the '70s. Instead of recycling them, he wondered if the University could use them. Taking up the offer, we've forwarded the magazines to the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections and Preservation at Rush Rhees Library, where they will be made available to researchers who want to learn more about life at Rochester in the past 30 years. After a long career as an engineering professor in New Mexico, Montana, and elsewhere, Pugh now is an independent consutant based in Williamsburg, Iowa.

Robert Potter (PhD) launched Tatum CIO Partners, L.L.P., as chairman of the firm. He has also been elected to the board of directors of Cree, Inc., a semiconductor material manufacturer. . . . Kenneth Williams (PhD) ran for a term on the planning board in Sterling, Mass., in May 2001. A former town moderator, selectman, and conservation commissioner, he is a retired chemist.

W. Beall Fowler (PhD), professor of physics at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, was honored as he retired from the school in May 2001. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and the recipient of the Eastman Kodak Scientific Award from Rochester. . . . Richard Palermo (MS) (see '59 undergraduate).

Robert Thayer (PhD) published his book Calm Energy: How People Regulate Mood with Food and Exercise in June 2001. The book presents a new approach to weight control and the role of exercise in mood maintenance, focusing on the mood-energy link to eating and inactivity. Phyllis Alexander (MS) has been a realtor in Washington, D.C., since 1980. . . . Martin Fiebert (PhD) was elected president of the Long Beach California Faculty Association at California State University in May 2001. He has been teaching at the college since 1965.

Edward Rinalducci (PhD) sends an update. After receiving his Ph.D., he taught and did research in vision and human factors for 12 years at the University of Virginia, eight years at Georgia Tech, and for the past 15 years at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. John Elter (PhD) received the Dixy Lee Ray Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The vice president of research and system architecture at Plug Power, Inc., he was recognized for "leadership in environmentally conscious manufacturing and contributing to the design and manufacture of a product that is excellent in performance and economical." . . . Thomas Nien-Tsz Tsai (PhD), a senior research manager at the Federal Railroad Administration, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers International.

Richard Gelles (MA) has been named interim dean of the school of social work at the University of Pennsylvania. The Joanne T. and Raymond B. Welsh Professor in Child Welfare and Family Violence at Pennsylvania, he is "an accomplished scholar, outstanding researcher, and experienced administrator," according to Pennsylvania President Judith Rodin.

Susan Denison (MA) married Richard Caro, Jr. on July 28, 2001. Susan is an executive recruiter and vice president of Cook Associates, a search firm, and Richard is president of a health club consulting company.

Jon Allen (PhD) published his book, Traumatic Relationships and Serious Mental Disorders, which seeks to impart a better understanding about the nature of trauma and to help professionals understand traumatized patients. . . . Charles Bellavia S (MBA) has been appointed interim CEO of Xecom, Inc. He retains his seat on the company's board of directors. . . . Kevin Bracken (MS) has been named vice president of manufacturing for Vical, Inc. of San Diego. . . . John Davies S (MBA) (see '72 undergraduate).

Leonard Jason (PhD) is one of three authors of A Clinician's Guide to Controversial Illness: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. The book suggests treatment options that take a mind/body approach to controversial illnesses.

Michael Corkran S (MBA) was appointed president of Hawk Corp.'s Powder Metal Group. He will establish a new headquarters for the group's operation in Ohio. . . . Robert Dolan (PhD) took over as dean of the University of Michigan Business School in July 2001. . . . Talat Rahman (PhD) was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Prize from the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition for her physics expertise in atomistic modeling of materials and high-performance scientific supercomputing. She is a professor of physics at Kansas State University.

Dan Meisburger (PhD) was named vice president of engineering of Ultratech Stepper, Inc., a supplier of photolithography systems used to manufacture semiconductors, microsystems devices, and thin-film heads for disk drives.

Pamela Klainer (PhD) is a workplace consultant and founder of Power and Money, a Rochester-based national consulting firm focusing on executive coaching, leadership development, and organiza- tional growth. . . . Margaret Raymond (MA) '82M (MS), '86 (PhD), former director of the Center for Research on Education Outcomes, conducted a study of the Houston-based Teach for America program, finding that it is a viable and valuable source of teachers.

Randi Bassow Minetor (MA) published her first book, Breadwinner Wives and the Men They Marry, with New Horizon Press Books. The first self-help book for wives who make more money than their husbands, the book was scheduled to be in stores in December 2001.

John Reynolds (PhD) was scheduled to debate Niles Eldredge, curator of the department of invertebrate paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, in discussions titled "Should Evolutionary Science Acknowledge the Supernatural?" and "Should Religion Acknowledge Evolution?" John is associate professor of philosophy at Biola University at La Mirada, Calif., and author of Three Views on Creation and Evolution. . . . Robert Wisniewski (PhD) married Mary Lanzerotti on July 21, 2001. Robert writes software for supercomputers, and Mary designs high-speed microprocessors for supercomputers, both at the T. J. Watson Research Center of IBM.

Suzanne is a high school English teacher, and James is an emergency medical physician at Overlake Hospital in Seattle. . . . Jason Sheron S (MBA) (see '97 undergraduate). . . . Mohammad Zaki (PhD) was awarded the Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation. The award, aimed at young faculty members engaged in research and education, is one of the NSF's most competitive and carries a five-year, $300,000 grant. Mohammad is an assistant professor of computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
