NANCY SWANK
Nancy Swank ’03N (MS) spent almost the entirety of her
nursing career at Strong Memorial Hospital. While working in
the pediatric emergency department at Strong, Kathy Rideout,
the now former Dean of the University of Rochester School of
Nursing, approached Nancy with the suggestion of continuing her
education. Nancy always had considered going back to school but
needed to prioritize the financial support of her family. When Kathy
Rideout mentioned the potential of a scholarship, Nancy didn’t
hesitate to apply.
In a full circle moment, Nancy received the Carolyn Taksen
Friedlander Scholarship, created by then University Board
of Trustee member Roger B. Friedlander ’56 and Carolyn T.
Friedlander ’68N (MS), Nancy’s children’s nurse practitioner.
