Is Procrastination Getting You Down? You may be surprised, but you’re not alone.
You may think you are a pretty good procrastinator, but the truth is that most of us are pretty good at it. It’s part of being human (Surowiecki, 2010; Andreou & White, 2010). This problem has been recognized since antiquity (apparently even Aristole had a name for it: Akrasia, see https://jamesclear.com/procrastination) (Clear, n.d.)! When we procrastinate, we put off a task that probably should be done sooner rather than later. Why do we do it? Maybe we just don’t like the work, or maybe we don’t know how to begin. It might be that we underestimate how long it will take to complete. Whatever the reason, we are putting off now pain for future pain. The thing is, future pain will be just as painful and maybe more painful, than current pain.
