The University of Rochester’s Office of Orientation and First-Year Programs develops and manages events and programs to welcome new students to life at the University. These include:
- Pre-arrival and early arrival programs
- International orientation
- Online orientation
- Fall Welcome Week
- Spring Welcome Weekend
Our team works with all first-year undergraduates on the River Campus, including international, transfer, and commuter students. We collaborate with current students, faculty, staff, and alumni to ensure that our newest students are welcomed by the entire University community.
Professional staff are full-time University staff members that work year-round to welcome first-year students. They manage orientation leaders, orientation volunteers, and international student mentors.
Orientation leaders help to shape the future of a new student's life at the University by mentoring groups of incoming students prior to their arrival. Orientation leaders are selected each spring, and serve as mentors for both incoming fall and spring students over the next academic year.
International student mentors (ISMs) begin communicating with incoming international students shortly after their enrollment to help them prepare for their arrival to the University. Throughout the academic year, ISMs continue to support students by organizing fun events and serving as a resource for questions about U.S. culture and University academics.
