STRONG MEMORIAL
HOSPITAL
• Annual funds helped us renovate operating rooms and
create private inpatient rooms. This helped Strong gain
attention as a national leader in patient safety, patient
engagement, and clinical connectedness to improve
patient care.
• Support provided the latest technology for our patients.
Our advanced heart failure program helped us become
one of the nation’s leading centers for research on and
development of ventricular assist devices (VADs).
Strong Memorial Hospital is the only comprehensive
heart failure and transplant center in upstate New York,
$48,802 allowing patients and families to be closer to home while
waiting for heart donations. Since the program’s
inception in 2001, we have performed over 225 heart
transplants and implanted over 400 VADs.
UR MEDICINE
HOME CARE
• Funds for programs like Meals On Wheels provided
hundreds of thousands of nutritious, volunteer-delivered
meals to thousands of homebound recipients
throughout Monroe County.
• The hospice and palliative care teams provided the
highest quality of care for more than 2,000 patients and
their families during the final stages of life. Bereavement
counselors partnered with local agencies to welcome
children to Camp Heartstrings—a summer camp
promoting understanding, accepting, and healing for
children adjusting to the loss of a loved one.
$61,290 • UR Medicine Home Care monitored thousands of
patients’ blood pressure, temperature, weight, oxygen
and glucose levels right from their homes using
telehealth technology, resulting in an estimated annual
health care cost savings of $1.5 million.
