EASTMAN INSTITUTE
FOR ORAL HEALTH
• Unique opportunities were provided for advanced,
specialized dental education and training, and for
expanding areas of study such as delivering care to older
adults that helps manage chronic diseases and
degenerative illnesses.
• More than 200 teledentistry visits were performed
through community outreach dentistry. These took
place in clinics, hospitals, and community health centers
across Rochester, and in mobile vans that care for
children in city schools and rural areas, and care for
children and adults with physical, developmental, or
$71,950 intellectual disabilities, as well as other medically
challenging conditions.
• Renovation of facilities in Eastman’s main campus, in
Strong Memorial Hospital, and in the Community
Dentistry Clinic in downtown Rochester helped
provide improved access to vulnerable populations
including the elderly, low-income children and adults,
those with developmental disabilities, and people with
medically complex conditions, such as cancer and
various immune deficiencies.
WILMOT CANCER
INSTITUTE
• Philanthropic support assisted in the successful
recruitment of Paula Vertino, PhD, the inaugural
Wilmot Distinguished Professor in Cancer Genomics,
who joined the Wilmot Cancer Institute as the new
Director of Translational Research; and Carla Falkson,
MD, PhD, the Director of Breast Cancer Clinical
Trials Program.
• Four seed grants totaling $175,000 propelled our
research for gaining a better understanding of how
$588,951 cancer cells form and helping survivors lead a better
quality of life.
• Annual funds also provided much-needed resources for
patients and families who experience financial needs.
