CLASP

Continuous Learning for Administrators of Sponsored Programs

CLASP involves both instructor-led sessions and online sessions.  Administrators having functional responsibility for sponsored projects need to complete CLASP Training.  Functional responsibility may be characterized by having an ability to originate, authorize or approve transactions associated with sponsored programs; involvement with proposal preparation; or active review and monitoring of the financial activities of sponsored project accounts.

CLASP Core Sessions, to obtain initial CLASP Certification

Core sessions required for initial certification consist of the following:

INSTRUCTOR-LED SESSIONS
  • Overview (1.5 hours)
  • Pre-award Functions:  Proposal/Budget Development, Costing Issues (1.5 hours)
  • Award Administration (1.5 hours)
  • Effort Reporting (1.5 hours)
  • Cost Sharing (1.0 hour)
  • Close Out (1.0 hour)
ON-LINE SESSIONS
  • Research Compliance
  • Ethics
  • Workday Fundamentals
  • IORA Fundamentals
  • P2P Fundamentals

Upon completion of the modules, and successful completion of an exam, participants receive a Certificate in Sponsored Programs Management.

There is no fee to participate in the CLASP program, as long as supervisory approval is given for participation.

Continuous Learning

The CLASP program offers a “continuous learning” aspect for CLASP participants and in order to maintain CLASP certification, CLASP certified administrators are required to participate annually in a minimum of approximately eight hours of continuing education, inclusive of monthly meetings (River Rats and RARA), CLASP electives and an annual update session.
