Fall Arrival Day Two

We're excited to welcome you to campus! If you've selected the second Fall 2025 arrival day, you will be expected to arrive to campus on this day and complete all the required check-in steps during open hours.

Getting to campus

On your assigned arrival day, you'll begin your check-in process at a specific location, based on what mode of transportation you're taking to campus, and whether or not you're living on campus.

Please find your planned arrival method for instructions on where to go on arrival day.

Travel delays

If you experience travel delays, contact your residential area office and the orientation team (orientation@rochester.edu) to let them know of your updated arrival time. Please expand the appropriate box below to view instructions for arrivals after 4 p.m. (EDT):

I am arriving to campus between 4 and 8 p.m. (EDT).

For Genesee, Gilbert, Hoeing, Lovejoy, Susan B. Anthony, and Tiernan Halls
Direct your driver to your residential area office to pick up your room key and Room Condition Form. Then, head to your residence hall to move into your room.

For all other residence halls
Direct your driver to your assigned residence hall and call the Department of Public Safety at 1-585-275-3333 to get access to your room for the night. (If you don't have a U.S. phone on you, look for a blue light phone outside of your residence hall in order to call the Department of Public Safety.)

On Wednesday, you will be required to complete the rest of your check-in steps.

I am arriving to campus between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. (EDT).

Direct your driver to your residence hall. Once you've arrived, call the Resident Assistant (RA) on duty (find their phone number). The RA will meet you to unlock your room, so you can move your belongings into your room.

On Wednesday, you will be required to complete the rest of your check-in steps.

I am arriving to campus after 2 a.m. (EDT).

Direct your driver to your assigned residence hall and call the Department of Public Safety at 1-585-275-3333 to get access to your room for the night. (If you don't have a U.S. phone on you, look for a blue light phone outside of your residence hall in order to call the Department of Public Safety.)

On Wednesday, you will be required to complete the rest of your check-in steps.

Welcome Week check-in

Wilson Commons, Hirst Lounge

9 a.m.–4 p.m. (EDT)
Check in for Welcome Week with the orientation team to pick up your campus ID card*, welcome bag, Welcome Week wristband, t-shirt, and mailbox information.

Family members are encouraged to stop by the Parent & Family Lounge on the fourth floor to pick up their own welcome item and learn more about Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday's events.

Representatives from local banks and national cell phone companies will also be available on the fourth floor to help you set up a Rochester-area bank account or U.S. phone plan, if needed. 

*All students are required to show a government-issued ID in order to pick up their campus ID card.

UR Essentials textbook pick-up

University bookstore (College Town)

10 a.m.–8 p.m. (EDT)
If you received a confirmation email that your course materials are ready for pick-up, they will be available at the University bookstore.

We encourage you to utilize the University shuttles, as parking is limited. The bookstore is serviced by the Blue Line, which departs every 20 minutes from the back of Rush Rhees Library. The closest stop to the bookstore is the College Town (Texas de Brazil) stop. Please plan at least 1 hour to make the round trip.

Parking instructions

If you're driving to campus on Tuesday, make sure to follow the instructions listed above for the Residential Life check-in and move-in process, beginning at Valentine Lot on Kendrick Road.

If you are a commuter student, please park in Library Lot between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you are an upperclass residential student, please park in the assigned spot associated with your parking permit after you complete your move-in. Families: after completing the move-in process, please park in Intercampus Drive Lot.

After you've completed your required check-in steps, it's time to explore campus! You can find all arrival days events in the Welcome Week app. The app also features campus resources, recommendations and tips from your Orientation Leaders, and arrival day information. Learn how to download the app and use its features when it launches in mid-August.
