How to get to Rochester

The University is located within the city of Rochester, New York, nestled just north of the Finger Lakes in western New York State.

Interstate bus service

OurBus: This bus service offers trips to Rochester from a few locations in New York State and New Jersey. OurBus drops off passengers at the Greater Rochester International Airport, about a 10-minute Uber or Lyft ride from River Campus.

Trailways: This company offers service to Rochester from locations throughout New York State. Trailways drops off passengers in downtown Rochester, about a 15-minute Uber or Lyft ride from River Campus.

Plane

River Campus is about two miles from the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (airport code: ROC). Car rentals, taxis, Uber, and Lyft are available in the lower level of the airport.

Train

Amtrak offers service to the Louise M. Slaughter Station (located at 320 Central Avenue in downtown Rochester) is offered on the Empire Service, Lake Shore Limited, and Maple Leaf trains. The train station is located in downtown Rochester, about a 15-minute Uber or Lyft ride from River Campus.

Accommodations

The greater Rochester area is home to a wide variety of accommodations, many within a few miles of River Campus. From hotels to home rentals, there is sure to be a place that best suits your needs. Many hotels offer special University of Rochester rates for incoming students and families during the beginning of the semester. We've noted a few below with an asterisk (*), but we recommend that you confirm that the hotel offers special rates before making your reservation.

Please note: The University of Rochester does not provide transportation from your accommodations to campus, so you will need to utilize your hotel's shuttle service (if available) or the taxi/rideshare or local bus services listed above to travel to the River Campus.

Home rentals

Vacation rental websites such as Airbnb and Vrbo offer a selection of furnished rooms and entire apartments or homes for rental throughout the Rochester area. If you're looking for a larger space with kitchen facilities, this may be the best option for you.
