PhD in English
Abbie Boudreaux
Why did you choose URochester for graduate education?
I chose to pursue my English PhD at the University of Rochester because of the program’s focus on pedagogy. When I graduate, I would like to teach in higher education, so a program that is committed to fostering the teaching skill was ideal for me. I also appreciate that at U of R, there is a culture of collaboration rather than competition in the English program that makes completing the degree a little easier.
What resources or services have you found the most helpful at URochester?
GEPA has been one of my most invaluable resources during my time at U of R. The office has helped to support me during difficult times as they have advocated for me and connected me to other resources around campus that also provide incredible support like the University’s Counseling Center (UCC).
What are your favorite spots on or off-campus in Rochester?
On campus, you will usually find me working in the Art & Music Library as it is always warm, which is especially nice during the winter. It also has comfy couches, helpful whiteboards, and there are typically unfinished puzzles on the tables that serve as engaging study breaks, especially when completed with friends. Off-campus, I love to café hop when I have a big assignment due; my favorite cafés are Javas, Boulder, Bookeater, and Café Sasso. When I am not working, attending a class at the Rochester Brainery, watching a movie at The Little Theatre, or eating a nice meal at Magnolia’s Deli & Café are all lovely activities in the city that bring me joy!
