Why did you choose UR for graduate education?
I chose the University of Rochester for its reputable status as a leading research institution with a collaborative environment. Particularly, the Chemistry department was very welcoming with all the faculty and senior grad students always happy to engage in scientific discussions and even friendly chats. The research areas within the department were very diverse with multidisciplinary science being a big push.
What resources or services have you found the most helpful at UR?
The Goergen Athletic Center or GAC, as I like to call it, has probably been my go-to resource at UR. Being a huge sportsperson, the fantastic facilities for all types of sports and fitness activities at the GAC have allowed me to unwind after a long day at work on any day of the year. The libraries have some fantastic study spots (I like a nice view when I read). I've also attended a number of brilliant shows at Dryden and Little Theaters, under the Eastman School of Music & Arts, where we get tickets at almost half price on our student IDs.
What are your favorite spots on or off-campus in Rochester?
Within the city, my go to eateries are Osaka Sushi, El Latino and Blaze Pizza, all highly recommended. My favorite spot on campus is Northfield where I play soccer on the weekends. In the fall, I often end up focusing on the colorful trees adjacent rather than the ball. I also enjoy the occasional hour-long drives to the state parks around Rochester with scenic waterfalls, hiking routes and serene camping spots.
